Your current path (and underlying situation) are not uncommon for many couples. Practically all of the couples I’ve known personally were much the same with the only difference being how self-aware they were of their own nature. You two, at least, have self-awareness going for you and are both, I believe, well-situated to explore this and capitalize on the experience gained.
