I decide to do some damage limitation.

‘Expensively! But its a good investment…you wait and see. Come by this evening and Mags will show you her new things’
‘Sounds great! Look, have you had a call from Duncan?’
‘No’
‘Well, if he rings I want you to be ultra cool, ultra relaxed about things.Duncan told James about the holiday and James lost it momentarily..’
‘He didn’t answer Duncan back dud he?’
‘No…nothing that strong. He expressed his frustration for a second. But he’s going back to thank Duncan for taking you on holiday.’
‘He’d better Jezz…I’m so…’
‘cross. I know. But trust me, this time you need to pace it a bit. You need to cut James some slack regarding how hard he has to work. So you’re going to be relaxed right? If Duncan doesn’t ring you saying dark things later, you’re going to know that he made James roll over, but with a yelp. OK?’
‘Alright…but tell me if things change. He talks to you about things.’
‘I want him to talk to you later too. I want him to tell you about his frets and I want you to soothe those a little. I’m not asking you to take the discipline off, I need you to just reassure him about how much you love what he does too.’
‘Alright darling. He rang you I suppose?’
‘yes, but that doesn’t matter, that doesn’t matter at all, OK?’
‘Yes, that seems fine then. We’ll see you tonight, alright?’
“Yep- bye’.

I end the call. Sometimes you need to think fast and to help some. When you let a third party impart news like this you clearly need to help a lot. I underestimated that. I’m bloody stupid sometimes. Let me state this here and now- I am bloody stupid on occasions.
