Ben calls when I get home, and says that the drink had the better of him last night. He shouldn’t have been so snotty with us. He likes Mags, and wants to see her again. He will wear a sheath. I say I will pass the message on, even though there isn’t an apology included. But I tell him honestly, he hasn’t got much of a chance. She is probably too good for him, too classy. ‘But but but…’I laugh, ‘it was all butt wasn’t it man, nothing about her as a woman. As I say, I’ll tell her you want to see her again, but don’t hold your breath.’

He doesn’t deserve Mags, he’s not ready for her. Em is right, entirely right. Besides I am very fond of her, both Em and I are.
