Women are naturally submissive. Most people tend to follow more than lead, but it's much more so for women and nothing is thought less of them for it while men, on the other hand, are all expected to be leaders despite the reality that most males are more likely to follow than lead as well.

For women, their nurturing role is formed by an instinctive need to care for and to please those in their immediate social group and is core to some of the major differences between men and women. Though largely submissive, women aren't going to 'submit' to just anyone; there is a social hierarchy to these things. Women will either feel the need to defer to someone else or they won't, but even if they do feel it, social, work and family pressures often overrrule that instinct. In addition to those restrictions, woman also have to worry about their safety. This is why trust is so important for any submissive, but especially for women, to allow themselves to be 'vulnerable'.

Your wife can only afford to give into those feelings because she has YOU to love and support her and most importantly, ensure her safety when she gives in to her desire to defer to an assertive male. This is simply nature taking its course.
