Not sure this is a joke or not.
There are any things to consider.

Location location, location.
Where are the couples located and living arrangements.
Not everyone lives in the city
Not everyone has access to transportation.
If this has been a long time on going living arrangement for the parents and the son has grown up around this arrangement then he might be comfortable with this type of arrangement.

How old are those involved.
Older father younger wife marriages the bull is more a physical bull than an emotional bull.
Is the bull younger than the wife / mother say 30 to her 40 then he may have gained experience which the son would like to pass on to his girl friend.

For the young couple this maybe offering her a bit of variety if they are a remote couple.
